Message from Matthew 24:36-51 (Week 2 of Advent)
At Christmas we celebrate the incarnation: the miraculous, mysterious truth that Jesus was born as fully man and fully God. The word Immanuel literally means “God with us.” We don’t celebrate Jesus’ birth simply out of nostalgia. We celebrate Christmas every year because Christians are looking forward to when Jesus Christ will return in power and glory, as he himself said. (Matthew 24:36-51) He told his disciples these things so that they would be ready (not caught unaware), and faithful (busy doing the God’s will on earth–not sitting idle or speculating on when he will return). Every day is another 24 hours closer to Jesus’ return. Are you ready? Will you be found faithful? Jesus invites you to know him. He says, “Come and see…”
