Jesus Builds His Church

Jesus builds His Church. He told his followers that the gates of hell will not prevail (overcome) his church. The church belongs to Him; the church has Christ’s power. The church is the bride of Christ, as described in the book of Ephesians and Revelation. People do not build the church. The Lord builds the church, and He graciously uses people in the process. Let us never forget that the church belongs to Jesus.

Consider this quote from Wayne E. Ward in the Teacher’s Bible Commentary:

With all of the disagreement today about the church, it is wonderful to have such a clear scriptural teaching on what the church really is, and what her purpose is in the world. Those who truly confess Christ as Son of God and Savior, who build their lives upon him, and carry the keys of living and proclaiming his kingdom, are the ones who make up his church. All the creeds and ecclesiastics in the world cannot make a church. Only the voluntary confession of Christ, and obedience to his commission, is the essence of the church. This should be a warning to all Christians today that real church membership is not guaranteed by belonging to a particular denomination, having been baptized, or having been born of Christian parents. Only a deliberate and responsible decision to confess Christ and obey him can make one a true member of his church.”
