Cheerful giving and the principle of sowing and reaping. Message from 2 Corinthians chapter nine. Grace from Christ Jesus is the fuel which brings joy and freedom in giving.
Main Point-
God calls us to give financially in order to see God at work and to understand more of his grace!
Principle of sowing and reaping-
“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” (2 Corinthians 9:6)
False Assumptions of Prosperity Teaching:
–God wants all to prosper…according to American definitions
–Rewards for giving will always come here & now with more money
–We can move God to act by simply speaking scriptures to Him. What about speaking Romans 8:17 to God that says “provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”? Prosperity teachers don’t usually quote that verse!
–God’s blessings for you are only good things– positive events
Remember: Cheerful Giving is not based on an amount, but rather on the attitude of the giver- to give thanks to God without expecting God to bless me personally.
Principles from 2 Corinthians 9:6-15
–God is pleased with a happy giver; giving joyfully increases our joy.
–God calls us to give financially so that we will see his faithfulness to us.
–God calls us to give financially so that we can see his blessings and continue to expand his work.
–God calls us to give financially so that others will give glory to God.
–Giving financially to meet needs strengthens unity in the church.
–God calls us to give financially in order to understand his grace!
“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:15
