“The Wise and the Foolish”. (Click to listen in new window or right-click to save).

We begin a series on Proverbs with the goal of following Jesus with more intention and purpose.  The Scripture make clear that Christ is “the power of God and the wisdom of God.” Proverbs says that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”  If we humble ourselves and have a sober awareness of God, we will find wisdom- the skills of living well.

People either live with an awareness of God and his purpose for their lives, or they generally drift through life, hoping to find clear direction.  Some will find clear purpose in their own plans, but when their own ambitions and goals are the ultimate goal, they end up frustrated and resentful when those goals are not met.

Proverbs are not simply the “secret keys” to a happy life, or the “nuggets of truth” that will help us avoid problems.  Proverbs are spiritual truths–complex and packed with meaning.  We need the Lord’s Spirit as to how to apply Proverbs to everyday life.
