Perhaps we have heard the phrase “God love you” so many times that we tune it out or take it for granted. People sometimes use the phrase “God is love” as a motto for living unholy lives, as if his character can be condensed to one attribute that is a higher priority than all the others. Some people believe that they are “too far gone” to be loved by God (which is really an expression of human pride).
The love of God is demonstrated to us in Jesus Christ- in his life, his death, and his resurrection. His love extends as high as the heavens, as deep as the oceans, and as wide as all the kinds of people on the earth. We love because he first loved us.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39 ESV)
